In celebration of International Yoga Day, GIIS KL organized a special yoga awareness and demonstration program in the school auditorium on June 16, 2026. The event brought together a group of students, enthusiastic parents, and teachers, all eager to delve deeper into the ancient practice under the guidance of Dr. Raj, a renowned yoga practitioner. The primary objective of the session was to introduce the school community to the profound impact yoga has on physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
The program was closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reflecting the school's commitment to holistic development. By encouraging healthy lifestyles and preventive healthcare, the event directly supported SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. Additionally, it contributed to SDG 4: Quality Education by equipping students with practical life skills and knowledge essential for maintaining fitness. Recognizing that physical and mental resilience are foundational to sustainable development, the session emphasized yoga as a lifelong tool for health.
The event commenced with an insightful introduction to the global significance of International Yoga Day, setting a mindful tone for the day. Dr. Raj then took the stage to demonstrate a series of fundamental yoga asanas. Participants actively followed his guidance, practicing essential postures such as the foundational Mountain Pose (Tadasana) for alignment, the Tree Pose (Vrikshasana) for focus, and the classic Padmasana (Lotus Pose) for meditation. The session also included more dynamic movements like Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) to strengthen the entire body, and the advanced Mayurasana (Peacock Pose), which Dr. Raj noted is excellent for core strength and improving digestion.
Beyond physical postures, Dr. Raj emphasized the power of breath by introducing key pranayama and breathing exercises. Participants practiced Kapal Bhati, Bhramari, and Anulom Vilom, learning the correct techniques directly from the expert. Dr. Raj explained that these regular breathing practices are vital for increasing lung capacity, enhancing blood circulation, reducing stress, and fostering an overall sense of mental calmness.
The highly informative and inspiring program concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, giving students a valuable opportunity to clarify their doubts and seek personal guidance on their practice. By the end of the event, the participants left not only with a deeper understanding of yoga’s holistic benefits but also with a renewed motivation to integrate these healthy habits into their daily lives.
